Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Pawtucket's S-Curve

Just before 03:30 on Sunday Morning Pawtucket Police received a call from a resident on Kossuth Street reporting a Motorcycle Accident on Route 95 Northbound seconds later Pawtucket Fire Alarm dispatched Engine's 2,5 and Rescue 2 to the area between Exit 28 (School Street) & Exit 30 (East Street) to investigate the report. Pawtucket Police arrived within minutes and confirmed a motorcycle down with the rider unresponsive, possibly not breathing and the rescue was expedited. Rhode Island State Police arrived and along with city units began to shut down the highway at Exit 29 (Broadway & Cottage Street.) Engine Two, Engine Five & Rescue Two transported a patient with severe trauma to Rhode Island Trauma Center in Providence where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The roadway remained closed for about an hour while accident reconstruction began the investigation.

In the days following the accident several friends and family members gathered in the grassy area along the exit ramp and broadway bridge which was the site of a fatal car accident on December. 30, 2005 and established a memorial however due to safety concerns the Rhode Island State Police responded and cleared out the area. The last fatal highway motorcycle accident in the city occurred around 02:00 on Saturday, June 19, 2010 when a Central Falls man was killed after being ejected from a motorcycle onto the embankment along the School Street off ramp the bike proceeded almost 1000 yards away and came to rest prior to the Underwood Street overpass.
